Why Buy American?
Products made in the US—including our razors—tend to come at a much higher upfront price point than those made abroad. This should come as no surprise to most. So why buy American? Below are a few reasons worth considering before making that next purchase.
Higher labor, safety, and environmental standards
Standards in the United States are higher than most places abroad where many of our everyday products are manufactured. This includes labor and safety standards (gotta wear a hard hat and closed toed shoes at the construction site) as well as environmental standards (can’t just dump that bright orange ooze into the nearby river). While higher standards do increase costs, they ensure a safe and clean environment for workers and the communities in which they live, and that we remain good stewards of the Earth and our natural environment and resources.
Keeps money circulating within the US
Sending US dollars overseas to purchase products only ensures that that money will eventually make its way back here in the form of increased demand for a fewer number of American-made products and thus consequently higher prices. For example, a portion of the high real estate prices in this country can be attributed to US dollars sent abroad to beneficiaries who then—in order to store their US currency somewhere safe—turn around and purchase homes here, bidding up prices.
Supports American industries and workers
Manufacturing in the United States is a significant source of employment, offering jobs from high-skilled positions in engineering and technology to roles in production and assembly. Not only that but each manufacturing job in the U.S. can lead to the creation of additional jobs in related sectors like logistics, retail, and services.
Developing home-grown industries and products not only helps ensure that US dollars remain here at home—giving our neighbors good paying jobs and meaningful work—but also bring back balance to our trade deficit by exporting and selling more goods abroad. This brings more money into the US that can be used for future investment, helps reduce the price of American-made products thus making them more competitive, and makes the US more independent by not having to rely on external sources with often very different interests than ours.
Reduces emissions and waste
Buying locally and closer to home also reduces the emissions and waste involved in getting the product to your home. If you purchase a Western Razor, for example, not only does it not have to travel across the Atlantic or Pacific to get here—reducing carbon emissions—but there’s less packaging needed since the razor doesn’t have to make the harrowing journey around the world. Additionally, once you have it, you pretty much use the razor for the duration of your lifetime. So if you’re worried about your carbon footprint, want to avoid contributing to the landfill, or are over Big Plastic razor companies, we’ve got your back.
When it comes to what and where to buy, we know you have a choice . The ”Made in USA" label is more than a bumper sticker slogan. It’s a promise of quality, an investment in our economy and country, and a step towards sustainable and secure national development. Making a reasonable effort to purchase US or local products from US or local businesses has far reaching and long lasting benefits that does a large amount of good for a large amount of people down the line. Your neighbors, your community, and your future self will thank you. We think that’s a worthwhile tradeoff.
