Shaving Myths Debunked

If you’re new to safety razors, you might have questions like “isn’t a Bluetooth-enabled, 10-bladed, AI-powered, self-lubricating razor the pinnacle of shaving?” After all, the ads said this was the future of shaving and they had a actor with a strong jawline to prove it.

We’re going to debunk some myths and ease your nerves about going old-school with a single blade. It’s simpler, more affordable, and way better.

Myth #1: "More Blades = A Closer Shave"

The Pitch: “Ten blades mean ten times the closeness! It’s science!”

The Truth: More blades don’t mean a closer shave—they mean more tugging, more clogging, more irritation, and more chances to turn your face into a crime scene. A safety razor? One sharp, precise blade cuts the hair cleanly at skin level—no yanking, irritation or clogging. Think of it like a samurai sword versus a Swiss Army knife with 17 attachments.

Myth #2: "Safety Razors Are Scary"

Okay, if we were talking straight-edge razors, then yeah we’d see your point. There’s a reason you lie in a chair while someone else (a barber who isn’t Sweeny Todd) does it for you. But safety razors are completely different. For one thing, the word “safety” is right there in the name. They’ve got a guard that keeps the blade at the perfect angle and exposure, so unless you’re shaving during an earthquake you won’t turn your face into a horror show. The trick—if there is one—is to start slow, use light pressure, and take multiple passes. Take your time in the early days and you’ll be just fine.

Myth #3: "Lubricating Strips Are The Only Way To Avoid Razor Burn"

First off, it’s a green strip of goo. Start there. Secondly, those lubricating strips are a nice fancy schmancy gimmick to up the price of the razor. Also, they wear out fast, they’re usually made from questionable materials, and they were added to solve a problem multi-blade cartridge razors created to begin with: multiple blades passing over the skin each stroke. With a safety razor, you’re in control. A good shaving cream and a nice wet face are all the prep you really need. Your skin will thank you, and your wallet won’t cry every time you toss a hair clogged aloe-stripped cartridge into the landfill.

Myth #4: "A Safety Razor Won’t Get The Job Done”

Safety razors have been taming five o’clock shadow since your great-grandpa was wooing ladies in pantaloons with his epic handlebar mustache. Seriously, the trick really isn’t the number of blades; it’s the razor itself, sharpness of the blades, and technique. A fresh double-edge blade works like a hot knife through butter. Pair it with a quality shaving cream and brush and your skin’ll be smoother than a baby’s bottom in no time.

Myth #5: "Modern Razors Are High-Tech, So They Must Be Better"

A safety razor is like a fork: It’s a timeless tool. It’s lightweight, eco-friendly, and costs spare change per blade. Meanwhile, the new Shave 3.0 beast is over there demanding a charger and a subscription for “premium shave analytics.”
